Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog Book Review

Mo Willems has done it again. The famed Pigeon has found a hotdog and a new character, Duckling scams his way into getting some of it. The duckling’s question of “Is that a hot dog” seems innocent enough but Pigeon know he’s up to something. After some yelling, pacing, talking to the audience and frustration Pigeon finally succumbs to the cute duckling and shares his hot dog.

Mo Willem’s write stories to appeal to little ones through adults. His books are best read out-loud and with much enthusiasm to really understand Pigeon’s irritation with duckling’s simple question of “Does it taste like chicken?”. If you are looking for something to keep your preschooler laughing pick up The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog.

All the other Pigeon books are great reads too and have the same humor and simple illustrations.

Is She a Daddy's Girl?

My youngest daughter definitely is! She wakes up yelling for Dada, she looks out the window asking for Dada, she carries a photo album around showing me Dada. She loves her Daddy and her Daddy loves her, there is nothing sweeter than that.

To commemorate this love I bought a book for the two of them. It’s called Daddy’s Girl, written by Garrison Keillor. It talks about a chubby legged, banana loving little girl whose Daddy is telling her how much he loves her and not to forget him when she’s older. I find it to be similar to Love You Forever but obviously for daddies and daughters. My husband read it tonight at bedtime and while it is very humorous and cute it is also sweet and endearing. He was choked up by the end of the book. I highly recommend this book for the Daddy’s out there with little princesses of their own.

This is a dance that we used to do
Before I knew there was a You
I don’t think much about long ago,
Oh baby, ‘cause I love you so
